Katra Vaishno Devi Temple:


Katra Vaishno Devi Temple, one of the holy Hindu temples in India, is located at an altitude of 1700 metre on Trikuta Parbata,at  Katra town.  Katra is located at a far away of 46 kilometer from Jammu. The temple located on a cave shrine devoted to the Hindu Goddess, Vaishno Devi  chanted as “jai mata di”. The cave having   30 m in length (approx.) and 1.5 metre in height. The main attractions of the Mata Vaishno Devi are the idols depicting the three looks of Vaishno Devi, mainly Mahakali; the  goddess of time and death, Mahasaraswati; the goddess of awareness, and Mahalakshmi, the goddess of prosperity and luck.

On arriving at the original Cave at Darbar, mata vaishno devi changed to  the form of Maha Kali and detach Bhairon Nath's head which was throwed to the mountain by blowing and fell at the loation where the Bhairon Temple is now situated. The stone at the entry point of the Holy Cave according to the tale is that horrified upper body of Bhairon Nath who was arranged heavenly forgiveness by the loving Mata in his last moments.

The Vaishno Devi Shrine Board is the official board of the Mata Vaishno Devi temple which is responsible for the governance and maintains of the temple. It is popularly known as the Shrine Board. The Vaishno Devi Shrine Board was started in August 1986 under the provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir “Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Act”. The primepurpose of the act was to make availabletheimproved management and domination of the Holy Mata Vaishno Devi Templeand its donationcounting the associated lands and constructions. The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has been given the responsibility of maintaining this temple. Eight million piligrimage (approx.) from around the country tour to Mata Vaishno Devi Temple on an annually. The Governor of the state of Jammu and Kashmir  is the ex-officio Chairman of the Board. He appointed nine members in the Board for the strategy making level. The Board discharges its responsiblity through a Chief Executive Officer who is helped by the Addl. Chief Executive Officer and different Area chief and professional Head. Since the responsible takeover by the Shrine Board has regularly continued hard to arrange all possible facilities to the visitors of the Holy Cave Shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi Ji. With the result, the yatra to the Holy Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi. Jai Mata Di Darshan has increased extremely, from 13.95 lakhs to 101.15 lakhs in 2011.     I have off late been reading a lot about Vaishno Devi and I came across some interesting facts which I thought i'd share.

    1. Geological investigations into the matter of Vaishno Devi, and some research of the Holy Caves, have yielded the result that it’s been approximately one million years on since the pilgrimages have begun to Vaishno Devi.

    2. During the battle at Kurukshetra between the Pandavas and the Kauravas in the Mahabharatha, Arjuna was told by God Krishna to meditate in front of the Holy Cave to Goddess Durga and pray for victory.

    3. Vaishno Devi is considered the holiest of all the places (also known as Shaktipeeth), which possesses the energy to keep the Mother Goddess safe.

    4. The highest point in Vaishno Devi is known as Bhavan, which is located at 6218 feet (1906 meters) above sea level.
